In our most recent seminar, the question of “Democracy in Crisis” was addressed in the context of the production of GM foods, gas and oil, and human dignity. We are pleased to host the penultimate seminar in our series on Friday the 15th of April where we will continue to dissect the theme of Ireland in Crisis, on this occasion ‘democracy in crisis.’ A selection of speakers will discuss democracy in the context of a wide array of issues; ranging from GM foods, to oil and gas, to fundamental rights in Ireland and South Africa.

Missed Policing in Crisis? Podcasts now available

Contininug to probe the question is “Ireland in Crisis?” On Friday we held a session, chaired by Dr Aogán Mulcahy, to address critical issues in policing. A range of topics – from racism to community relations to police misbehaviour – were covered in presentations from Dave McInerney (UCD), John Reddy (NUIG) and Brian Moss (UCD). We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the talk.

We’ve been delighted with the response so far to the CIISN seminar series. We are grateful to all who continue to support it, providing feedback to speakers and engaging in a wider discussion. We are pleased to host another seminar on Friday 25th March where we continue to dissect the theme of Ireland in Crisis on this occasion exploring ‘Policing in Crisis?’ A selection of PhD researchers will discuss issues affecting crime and policing; from the challenges of multiculturalism to community relations.

Missed Education in Crisis? Podcasts now available

Last Friday, Sarah (UU), Niamh (UCD) and Martin (UCD) presented on topics relating to education in crisis, chaired by Prof Patrick Clancy. A stimulating discussion followed and all three presenters used their expertise in their field to contribute to education as an interdisciplinary subject. We would like to thank both the speakers and the audience for making this yet another successful seminar.

This seminar brings together PhDs from across disciplines in Ireland to present current issues in Education. It is an opportunity for researchers to connect, share ideas and address issues that are of critical importance in their field. It also offers an opportunity to learn more about cutting edge research being produced by students in Ireland today.
